Concept
Purposes of the Experimental Education Program
1. Cultivating Fundamental Virtues through Practice and Role Models
This program emphasizes the cultivation of four core virtues: wisdom, perseverance, temperance, and integrity, developed through practice and exemplary learning.
Comenius asserted that “learning sciences and arts is merely the beginning, not the end; it is the learning of wisdom that elevates us, stabilizes us, and nourishes the soul—this is moral learning.” He believed that education plays a critical role in transforming human character and that moral cultivation is a fundamental mission of education. In particular, he emphasized:
-
Wisdom for sound judgment in real-life matters,
-
Perseverance through rational endurance and self-restraint,
-
Temperance to avoid excess in everyday life,
-
Integrity as the commitment to refrain from harming others and to serve them willingly.
These virtues form the foundation of our experimental education program's character development objectives.
2. Developing Students’ Key Competences and Holistic Qualities
Inspired by Comenius’s pansophic philosophy—advocating that individuals should acquire all useful and necessary knowledge for real life—the European Commission has identified eight Key Competences for Lifelong Learning, aimed at supporting young people through foundational education:
-
Communication in the mother tongue,
-
Communication in foreign languages,
-
Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology,
-
Digital competence,
-
Learning to learn,
-
Social and civic competences,
-
Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship,
-
Cultural awareness and expression.
Each competence involves a combination of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. This experimental program aims to cultivate these key competences and holistic abilities, enabling students to adapt to future learning and development.
3. Strengthening Civic Awareness and Democratic Values
Comenius believed that universal education could promote peace and cooperation among humankind. Reflecting this vision, the EU Comenius Programme prioritizes enhancing social cohesion, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, gender equality, and personal achievement, while reinforcing understanding and respect for human rights and democracy. It also fosters tolerance and respect for other cultures and peoples.
In alignment with this spirit, our program integrates practical experiences, reflective learning, and civic engagement, in order to develop students’ democratic values and civic consciousness.
4. Emphasizing Foreign Language Learning and International Mobility
The Comenius Programme consistently emphasizes the importance of foreign language education, focusing on linguistic proficiency, cultural understanding, and effective communication—both oral and written. It encourages students to engage in cross-cultural activities, exchanges, and cooperation, cultivating an active curiosity and appreciation for diversity.
Guided by these principles, this experimental education program regards foreign language acquisition and international mobility as key educational goals.
